TRAINING CAMP IS OVER - we go from Šumava to Paris - 13.05. 2013
The complete Kick France team came together for training and a Tour simulation to a great mountain hotel Chata Cihelny hidden in Sumava mountains.
It's rare everything goes as well as it did now. It starts to look like we are going to Paris and will even have some fun on the way!
Training days were about 170km, 140km, 125km, 210km and 160km = quite in line with five first days in France. There we even get a rest day (20km time trial) in between.
In France there are bigger climbs, but not nearly as many as in Sumava. And on the first week of le Tour there is only one climb bigger than 20 km hill from river Otava to Filipova Hut.
Good news:
- Everyone has a great motivation, and good spirit in the team. Team has grown together.
- There is a great difference between training without support and training with a good support. And we had a good support. After good eating and on some nights even good sleeping team was in mood to start racing each other just for fun on the last day.
- Penco recovery drink actually tastes really good.
- Dutch riders seem to like fast climbing.
- Cavendish aka mr. Liska does not like climbing as much but he's unbeatable on downhills.
- Zipp wheels make a difference.
- An engine is an engine, said Rene, and repaired our support van, even if he's usually dealing with a bit larger engines on ships.
- We, Michal especially, passed too many bikers to count, so Honza started to pass cars.
- Chata Cihelny offers a weekend if we kick it through France. Then we'll do less kilometers I guess.
- Otava river is fantastic. Must be done on a canoe or air matress...
- Everyone seems to agree pasta and smelly cheeses are good. We'll get those for sure in France.
Just news:
- Legendary Sumava race route would be very different, and extremely fast, if ridden in reverse direction.
- Watch out for trains at railroad crossing or you might kick your life.
- Mudguards are good for sitting and also for keeping water off your legs, but need to be fastened really well if you ride cobblestone streets.
Bad news:
- Training camp has ended. It was fun.
